SACEMA has released a new version of its ‘Assay Based Incidence Estimation’ (ABIE) toolkit.

The proximate impetus for this revision, version three, was ongoing consultation with WHO and UNAIDS on SACEMAs work in this area.

In particular, in the context of a substantial pipeline of major population surveys which aim to measure HIV incidence through biomarkers of recent infection, there was a need to improve the sample design aspects of the toolkit, to account for so called ‘cluster’ based, or ‘hierarchical’ sampling which is usual in these kinds of surveys, and which lead to greater variance in results than would be inferred under the assumption that all study subjects are independently chosen from the population at large.

The new tools can be found here.
